Migraine Headaches

In my Functional Medicine practice in Bloomington Illinois, I take a different approach to the treatment and prevention of severe headaches like Migraines and Cluster. Whereas most doctors you have seen treat only the symptom of Migraine headaches, I specialize in the treatment of the causes of Migraine headaches. With the use of very specialized neurological and functional laboratory analysis, no stone will be left unturned in determining the exact cause of your Migraines. Once the cause is discovered and resolved, the Migraine headaches just...VANISH. Doesn't it make more sense to treat the headaches cause, rather than try to just "cover up" the symptoms of Migraine syndrome with medications. This is the reason I am different from any other doctor you have seen and why my Migraine headache program is so successful in central Illinois.

The Migraine is perhaps the best known special type of severe headache. It is actually called the Migraine Syndrome. By syndrome we mean that a lot of other symptoms accompany the Migraine headache – all of them bad. Symptoms include dizziness, light sensitivity, “spots” before the eyes, redness, swelling, tearing of the eyes, muscle contraction, irritability, heart palpitation, excessive sweating, nausea, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhea. These symptoms often arise before the Migraine hits. The headache itself may last for a few minutes to a few days, and the severity may range from minor discomfort to immobilizing agony. Migraine headache pain is most common in the temple, but it may be experienced anywhere in the head, face and neck.

Closely related to the Migraine, is the Cluster headache. Attacks come on abruptly with intense, throbbing pain arising high in the nostril and spreading to the area behind the eye on the same side. Sometimes, the forehead is also affected. Cluster headache attacks tend to occur from once to several times daily in clusters lasting weeks, or even months. Without apparent reason, the cluster subsides as quickly as it began.

When the upper part of your brainstem, the mesacephalon, over- fires or becomes hyperactive, it causes blood vessels in the head to contract and later expand. This is what causes the Migraine headache, as well as the other related symptoms mentioned above. But, what causes the brainstem to over- fire? Problems ranging from neurological weaknesses in the brain to metabolic issues like hidden infections, nutritional deficiencies, food allergies, adrenal dysfunction and heavy metal/chemical toxicity may be the reason. With functional neurological and laboratory testing, we can pinpoint the exact cause of your Migraine or Cluster headache, correct it, and give you back your life!

We utilize precise BBT(brain based therapy) if indicated and metabolic treatments to "quiet" this over active part of the brainstem, giving you the relief you desperately need from your Migraine headache nightmare. No medications are needed. If indicated, these BBT are simple home-based exercises designed to address the causes of Migraine and cluster headaches, not just "mask" or "cover up" the headache with drugs. The metabolic treatments are designed to correct the biochemical/nutritional issues associated with Migraine syndrome as mentioned in the section above. No matter how long you've suffered from Migraines or Cluster headaches or how severe they are, this program works! And, it will work for you too!
