Chronic Pain and Vitamin D

Our health is a complex balance of hormones, vitamins, blood chemistry, immunology, neurology, and genetics. When any of these elements are out of balance, we experience disease or pain. A recent study from Mission Viejo, California looked at one tiny aspect of this relationship by studying the blood serum levels of vitamin D in pain patients who were getting treatment at an acute rehabilitation center.

The authors took blood samples from 414 patients and assessed each of them for nonspecific musculoskeletal pain. The study found that patients reporting musculoskeletal pain had significantly lower levels of vitamin D.

In fact, test subjects with a blood serum level of <20 ng/mL were 2.33 times more likely to suffer from pain than those with levels over 20 ng/mL.

If you’re suffering from chronic pain, there may be options for you. In our office, we assess a wide range of factors that might be contributing to your pain problems, including vitamin D, and we work with our patients to naturally and non-invasively restore your body’s natural function.
